Benefits of Becoming a SeaBEC Member

SeaBEC brings together professionals from across the building industry to share knowledge, discuss real-world challenges, and advance the design, construction, and performance of building enclosures throughout the Pacific Northwest.

Whether you are an architect, engineer, contractor, manufacturer, owner, consultant, researcher, educator, or emerging professional, SeaBEC provides opportunities to learn, connect, and contribute to the building enclosure community.

1.      Access to High-Quality Continuing Education

SeaBEC monthly webinars occur on the 3rd Thursday of each month and cover enclosure failures, new materials, building envelope testing, emerging technologies and research, case studies, best practices and lessons learned. Annual dues provide access to high-quality, in-depth continuing education and regular member meetings.

2.      Lunch or Dinner Meal at Monthly Training Events

SeaBEC monthly webinars typically include a lunch or dinner meal and drink refreshments prior to the educational presentation. Having food and drink refreshments creates a welcoming environment and an opportunity to network with other industry professionals. The meeting is broadcast to members unable to physically attend. These meetings provide members with an opportunity to combine technical education and networking with other professionals in the building enclosure community.

3.      Network with Industry Professionals

SeaBEC brings together architects, engineers, building envelope consultants, general contractors, subcontractors, product manufacturer representatives, researchers, code officials and other industry leaders for our monthly continuing education presentations. Members build relationships that lead to collaboration, mentorship and business opportunities.

4.      Stay Current with Technology and Industry Best Practices

SeaBEC was founded to create a space where the industry can openly discuss building enclosure issues, solutions and best practices. We share cutting-edge developments in enclosure materials, energy efficiency, moisture control, thermal comfort, durability, and resilience — helping professionals stay aligned and current with new technologies and best industry practices.

5.      Learn Region-Specific Building-Envelope Strategies

SeaBEC webinars address regional climate, construction issues, and code requirements — ensuring the education you receive aligns directly with the conditions and challenges in your market. This Pacific Northwest focus helps members better understand the enclosure challenges, materials, construction practices, and climate conditions they encounter in the region.

6.      Participate in Case Studies, Project Tours, and Real-World Conditions

SeaBEC may host project tours to walk through local construction projects and showcase below grade, above grade, roofing, horizontal liquid-applied membranes, cladding systems and overburden assemblies that are being installed and/or completed. These opportunities provide members with practical, real-world insight into how building enclosure systems are designed, installed, tested, and perform in the field.

7.      Continuing Educational AIA Credits

Most major US cities have a Building Enclosure Council (BEC), and each one is part of a broad U.S. network of 34+ local chapters under the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS) or the American Institute of Architects (AIA). As part of the Building Enclosure Technology and Environment Council (BETEC) and NIBS umbrella, SeaBEC members can participate in qualifying AIA-accredited education sessions and other continuing education opportunities. Credit availability may vary by program, so members should refer to individual event announcements for specific information.

8.      Direct Connection to the National BEC Network

SeaBEC is part of the nationwide BEC network (BEC-National), which promotes building-science excellence across the USA. A SeaBEC membership provides a connection to the broader building enclosure community and exposure to national building-science resources, including commissioning resources (BECx), and the continually updated Building Envelope Design Guide (https://drupal.nibs.org).

9.      Discounts on Special Events & Symposiums

SeaBEC members receive discounted pricing for SeaBEC sponsored events, workshops and symposiums which often feature national experts and deep-dive technical sessions. These member discounts provide additional value throughout the year and make it easier for members to participate in larger educational and networking opportunities.

10. Support for Students and Emerging Professionals

Student and retired memberships are free, helping grow the next generation of building-science professionals. Members help sustain a community that invests in education and development of industry leaders. SeaBEC also provides an opportunity for experienced professionals to share knowledge, build relationships, and support students and emerging professionals as they enter and grow within the building enclosure industry.
